Causes of Bad Breath may not be what you expect. Sometimes, bad breath doesn’t just indicate a lack of oral hygiene—it can be an indication of some other kind of lifestyle choice or even a health issue. You may be surprised to learn what kind of things you may be doing daily can give you bad breath.

ALCOHOL

Drinking alcohol can cause bad breath. Alcohol dries out your mouth and allows your mouth to become the perfect environment for bacteria to thrive. Caffeine, cigarettes and spicy foods can do the same. The bacteria then causes the dreadful bad breath. A lack of moisture and saliva is also the cause of “morning breath.”

DIET

Specific diets can cause bad breath. The keto diet has become popular in the last few years, but a low-carb diet encourages your body to burn fat for energy. While this may be an effective weight loss strategy, this process makes compounds called ketones which cause bad breath. If you’re determined to follow a low-carb diet, The Dirt’s Alcohol Free Breath Spray and Oil Pulling Mouthwash can help you keep that keto breath under control.

MEDICATIONS

Certain medications, like some antidepressants or allergy relief medications, can suppress saliva flow. In many cases, medications are completely necessary and simply ditching them just for the sake of your breath is not an option. In these cases, The Dirt’s Alcohol Free Breath Spray is the perfect solution while on the go. It’s small enough to keep with you so you can spray throughout the day to keep bad breath at bay.

DEHYDRATION

Dehydration is a more obvious exampledry mouth almost guarantees a case of bad breath. Make a conscious effort to stay hydrated throughout the day, especially if you’re an avid coffee drinker. If you can’t ditch the coffee, keep our Alcohol Free Breath Spray handy and you won’t even have to worry about coffee breath! But seriously, you should hydrate. Don’t use our amazing breath spray as an excuse to ignore your water intake. :)

TONGUE

All of the above habits or conditions cause bacteria buildup on the tongue which is the leading cause of bad breath. Your tongue is the perfect place for bacteria growth and most people think brushing their tongue is enough, but scraping your tongue is much more effective. The Dirt’s Antimicrobial Copper Tongue Scraper is naturally antibacterial and antimicrobial to scrape off the gunk safely.

While you work on adding lifestyle choices to a more permanent fix to any one of these problems, the products we mentioned can make a huge difference in conjunction with those changes.
