Oil Pulling may be an effective remedy to improve gum health and reduce inflammation. It works primarily by decreasing the harmful bacteria and plaque in the mouth that contribute to gum diseases like gingivitis. Many people have found it to help reduce or even remedy their gum health issues. It is a task that is seemingly easy but it does require strong facial muscles and 20 minutes of your day so it can be a little harder than anticipated. Here are a few tips to make oil pulling a bit easier for you when you are getting started:

  1. Build Up Time. The suggested oil pulling time is 15- 20 minutes. It’s actually very tough and takes some practice. You will be using muscles that you normally don’t when swishing and swashing the mouthwash. Start with 5 minutes and then add one minute each time you do it!

  2. Distract Yourself.  Again, 15-20 minutes is a long time if you are just looking at yourself in the mirror. Choose a small task to do simultaneously while oil pulling. Try unloading the dishwasher, folding laundry, cooking dinner, organizing your desk, whatever it takes!

  3. Take a Break. If your jaw gets tired let the oil sit at the front of your mouth for a minute or so. This is just as effective during your oil pulling session.

  4. Spit in the Trash. When you are done spit the mouthwash into the trash instead of the sink or toilet. This will avoid clogging drain pipes!

  5. Rinse with Saltwater. Luckily our Oil Pulling mouthwash is flavored and actually tastes pretty delicious compared to other methods! However, it is a strong flavor that you might now want to go to bed with or eat/drink afterwards. Rinse by swishing saltwater in your mouth for a minutes afterward!
